About me / Vita
Kelly Boyle, a self taught artist, age 30. I was
born in Wakefield, now residing in Leeds.
All of my work is organic in process.
My work reflects fun, freedom, individuality,
proportion, movement, progression, imperfection,
difference and a balance between emotion and logic
as well as provoking interaction, discussion and
accessibility.
Art/Creativity is my way of releasing raw
emotions, choosing acrylic & acrylic thickener for
paintings and ball point pens as the medium for my
drawings.
I was too self-critical in early years, always
striving for perfection. A lack of ideas prevented
me from creating, like writers block. Now I can
create freely without requiring any ideas, as I
have since learnt to embrace a more conscious
freedom in expression, finding that ideas for
paintings/drawings form in my subconscious whilst
absorbing daily life.
I prefer to draw when I’m out and about. I’m like
a sponge that soaks up my entire environment, both
visually and audibly, I find inspiration in
shapes, light, contrast, emotions and interactions
between people. The majority of the colours I use
are inspired by nature.
Each piece is a bookmark to my emotional state,
which is why they’re titled with the date of
completion. The artworks produced represent
different things to different archetypes/people,
suggesting a conversation between objective and
subjective perspectives. This is something that I
think is important about art, people coming
together and finding freedom in their own
opinions, as well as accepting the individual
interpretation of others. This helps me to
remember that nothing is ever one sided.
Creating artwork helps me escape from the
monotonous and upsetting aspects of reality and
provides me a sense of achievement. I’m driven by
pure passion and expression. Being creative tunes
my ability to hyper-focus and keeps my obsessive
personality at bay in a positive and productive way.
As my art grows, the more it adds light to the
dark and continues to shape and lead with its own
personal philosophy.
